Module 0: Introduction

Welcome to the Empty Spaces to Homes Toolkit

Empty Spaces to Homes is a programme developed by Habitat for Humanity GB, aiming to create more social and affordable homes through the conversion of empty non-residential buildings.

This toolkit is designed to support anyone considering an empty building conversion project. Many buildings sit unused because the process of bringing them back to life is perceived to be too difficult or expensive. This toolkit will help to guide you through the process, from initial ideas and identifying buildings, to design, construction and measuring your impact. It draws on the experience of the HfHGB team across a range of conversion projects, as well as insights from members of the ES2H Coalition.
